Mohammed Kudus has now become the most expensive Ghanaian footballer in history following his high-profile transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Black Stars midfielder completed a long-term move from West Ham United to Spurs for a record-breaking fee of £55 million, eclipsing the £45.3 million Arsenal paid to acquire Thomas Partey from Atlético Madrid in 2020.
Kudus’ previous £38 million switch to West Ham in August 2023 remains the third-highest among Ghanaians, with Chelsea legend Michael Essien and Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah occupying fourth and fifth positions at £24.4 million and £22 million respectively.
During his time at West Ham, the former Ajax star impressed with 19 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions, earning praise for his versatility and attacking prowess.
Speaking to the club’s media, Kudus said he has “always wanted to play at the highest level.”
He added: “How big the club is, the history and the Champions League as well, so it’s a big moment. I’m very happy and can’t wait to start.”
Kudus is expected to link up with his new teammates this week for pre-season training under head coach Thomas Frank, with his debut likely to come in the UEFA Super League clash against European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
