Ghanaian trap sensation Edoh YAT has opened up about a major career regret—despite the massive success of his hit single Wind, he believes the song gained more recognition than he did as an artist.
In a candid interview on At The DJ’s Mercy with Kvng Kelly on July 4, 2025, Edoh YAT admitted that although Wind catapulted him into the national spotlight, it didn’t fully translate into the personal brand recognition he had hoped for.
“I feel like the only regret I have sometimes is that my song Wind blew up more than I did,” he confessed. When asked what might have caused the disconnect, he replied honestly: “I don’t even know what went wrong. I don’t know.”
Released in 2019, Wind quickly became a street and campus anthem across Ghana, gaining massive traction on social media for its catchy hook, emotive delivery, and relatable lyrics that resonated deeply with the youth.
What many may not know is that Wind was created over a beat originally produced by renowned Jamaican producer Damage Musiq, best known for Tommy Lee Sparta’s “Blessings” on the Conquest Paradise Riddim. While several Ghanaian artists, including Shatta Wale, Larruso, and others jumped on the riddim to create their versions, Edoh YAT’s trap-inspired adaptation, produced by Fimfim, rose above the rest, solidifying his place as a leader in Ghana’s alternative trap soundscape.
The viral success of Wind led to a highly anticipated remix featuring none other than Medikal and Guru, the latter of whom is currently serving as the SRC President of the University of Ghana. The remix further fueled the song’s popularity, though Edoh YAT still reflects on how the spotlight didn’t follow him with the same intensity.
Now, years later, Wind remains one of the biggest songs in his discography and a cultural touchstone for Ghana’s Gen Z music lovers.
Edoh YAT’s reflection has sparked fresh conversations online about how emerging artists can better capitalise on viral moments to sustain long-term visibility. As he continues to release music and evolve his sound, fans are hopeful that the name Edoh YAT will shine as brightly as the tracks he creates.
