Police Ladies Football Club have been crowned champions of the southern zone after 18 games in the just-ended 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season.
With an impressive record of 11 wins, 6 draws, and just 1 defeat, Police Ladies FC secured a total of 39 points, finishing two points ahead of last season’s champions, Hasaacas Ladies, who ended the campaign with 37 points.
Speaking on the Univers Sports Show, Head Coach of Police Ladies FC, Abu Kassim, attributed the team’s success to the strong sense of unity in the camp before the season began, coupled with their determination and focus.
“In previous seasons, we were not known for strong starts, but this time, we made a deliberate effort to improve—and that led to our victory in the opening match,” he said.
“A lot of factors contributed to our success. I built a close social connection with the team, which helped me understand the players’ mindset and fostered a deeper sense of unity. We also worked hard to ensure that challenges off the pitch didn’t affect the players mentally. I took it upon myself to handle the pressure so the team could focus on performing freely and confidently on the field.”
Coach Kassim further highlighted the efforts made to rejuvenate the squad.
“My number one priority when I took over was to find ways and means to rejuvenate the team. It was difficult when we recruited new players,” he added.
The head coach also emphasised the team’s readiness for the challenges ahead.
“Moving forward, we are prepared to play any club. Ampem Darkoa is a strong side, and we are also a strong side. We will do everything possible to win the trophy this year.
We are ready to represent the country. We will seek support from other clubs—loan some players and sign others to strengthen the team and ensure we can compete at the highest level.”
Police Ladies FC are set to face Northern Zone champions Ampem Darkoa in the final playoff of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
