Matchweek 9 of the University of Ghana Corporate Football League delivered closely contested matches, dramatic moments, and a touch of star power as the competition inches closer to its business end.
In one of the week’s most anticipated encounters, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the College of Health Sciences (COHS) shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. The match drew special attention due to the presence of former Black Stars defender and current assistant coach John Paintsil, alongside former Asante Kotoko captain Eric Donkor—both of whom turned up in support of GFA. Their presence elevated the atmosphere and gave fans plenty to cheer about, despite the deadlock on the pitch.
The clash between Telecel and the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) ended in a goalless stalemate, with both teams cancelling each other out in midfield. Despite the lack of goals, the match featured moments of individual brilliance and tactical discipline.
Ghana Armed Forces Sports Club (GAFOSC) emerged as the only victors of the round, delivering a commanding performance to defeat the College of Education (COE) 2-0. It was a statement win for GAFOSC, who combined physicality with precise attacking play to secure all three points.
Another highlight of the matchweek was the 1-1 draw between the College of Humanities (COH) and GNPC, which saw a surprise return to the pitch by former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyeman Badu. Turning out for GNPC, Badu displayed flashes of his old brilliance—dictating play from midfield and inspiring his side with leadership and experience.
After an action-packed weekend at the Union Field, the league will now head into a two-week break to make way for the CAF African Schools Football Championship, set to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium. When the Corporate League resumes, it will return to its usual Friday fixtures—but this time, with a twist: a new sporting addition, Corporate Athletics, will be introduced, adding a fresh competitive dimension and uniting participants across across both football and track events.
