Election ‘ 24 ; 123 persons in Police custody will soon be put before court for prosecution – ACP Ansah Akrofi

The Ghana Police Service has indicated that there  have not been any major security breaches over the past 24 hours across the country as security operations intensify post Elections.

The Service further indicates that the deployment of both uniformed and non uniformed personnel on foot and mobile patrols alongside collaboration from sister security agencies has largely kept the previous disturbances under wraps.

Speaking to journalists at the press centre for the National Elections Security Taskforce at the Police Headquarters on Thursday , December 12 , Director of Public Affairs , ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi intimated that the processes to put the suspects associated with the chaos caused post Elections across the country have began in earnest , to face the full rigours of the law .

She added that a number of such suspects have been kept in both prison and police custody , whilst a number of them have been granted police enquiry bail to report to court at dates to be assigned layer as full investigations continue into the incidents .

” There have been a total of 123 persons in our custody in relation with post Elections related incidents across the country ranging from looting both private and public properties , attacking state installations and disturbing public peace . We have began the court processes in earnest to get these suspects to face the full rigours of the law as enshrined in the Criminal Offences Code . 49 of the arrested persons have been put before court , 16 of them have been granted court bail , whilst 33 have been remanded into prison and police custody .  70 more have been granted policy enquiry bail , in compliance with statutory requirements with 4 others who have been arrested in the 24 hours will be processed as well in the coming hours “.

ACP Ansah Akrofi further revealed that the NDC Effutu Constituency 2nd Deputy Chairman is in good health and with his family as against rumours circulating of him being abducted. The Service is in contact with him as well as investigations continue.

” Our latest findings reveal that the Effutu NDC 2nd Deputy Chairman, Abraham Ato Annan is in good health and with his family and the general public is advised to disregard rumours of his abduction. We are in contact with him as investigations into the allegations continue “.

She served the best intentions of the Police to protect the peace and sanctity of the country post Elections and entreated the general public to go about the daily activities freely and feel safe in the coming days .
