The National Democratic Congress (NDC), formerly the minority caucus, has become the majority caucus in Parliament.

This historic shift is as a result of the declaration of four parliamentary seats vacant by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, October 17.

The declaration stems from extensive discussions and arguments presented by both the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament concerning the petition filed by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu.

Ghana’s hung parliament which gave the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) a slight upper hand as the Majority side with the support of an Independent Member of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, will now tilt towards the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC now holds 136 parliamentary seats, making them the majority in Parliament while the NPP holds 135 seats.
