President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his full support for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is contesting the upcoming elections on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ticket, aiming to succeed Akufo-Addo as president.

Speaking to the clergy and the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs in Wa, President Akufo-Addo reflected on nearly two decades of collaboration with Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing his loyalty and commitment, and urging Ghanaians to rally behind him.

“These nearly 20 years that I have been working with Mahamudu Bawumia, I have not had one day, one occasion to doubt his loyalty, to doubt his commitment to our common cause. And I have come here to ask you for your support. Help Bawumia break the 8.”

President Akufo-Addo noted that while former President John Mahama has secured the number 8 position on the ballot, the NPP’s objective remains to break the 8.

He suggested that Mahama’s association with the number 8 may not be a positive sign, as the NPP is focused on overcoming that very number to achieve electoral success.

“I see that the former president is saying all kinds of things about the number 8 that he chose, that it means he is going to win. Well, breaking the 8 and having the number 8—that is not a good sign at all. Our goal is to break the 8, and you picked the 8. That’s very simple.”
