Flagbearer of Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has criticized the opposition party, NDC’s call for a forensic audit of the voter register, deeming it impractical given the short timeline before the December 7 election.

Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, Mr Akpaloo urged the NDC to reconsider its demand, arguing that it would divert attention from critical election preparations.

He pointed out that with less than three months until the December 7 elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) lacks the time needed to carry out such an extensive audit.

“We had no time to waste. So from now to the 7th December, 65 days or 67 days, when are we going to do this foreign voter audit? 276 constituencies, 40,000 polling stations, 18 million registered voters. Who’s going to do the auditing in less than 60 days? So, NDC, please stop this request because it’s not going to help anybody. And mind you, this is a biometric register. No dead person can come out from their grave to come and vote. So if there’s a dead person on the register, how is it going to affect the result?”

Mr. Akpaloo applauded the EC’s work, rejecting claims of human error and emphasizing that the commission has proven its competence.
