The Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum, has revealed that the University of Ghana Stadium has been dropped from hosting the Black Stars clash with the Sudanese national team in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.

The NSA made this change to ensure that the Ghana Premier League matches, some of which have already been held at the stadium, can continue without interruption and to avoid any potential scheduling conflicts with the forthcoming league games.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Youth and Sports instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to inspect the University of Ghana Stadium for potential approval as an alternative venue for the Sudan clash.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) temporarily shut down the Accra Sports Stadium and as a result, three Ghana Premier League clubs are currently using the UG stadium as an alternative home ground for the league.

“Why this conversation about capacity came about is because we included Legon Sports Stadium( UG stadium) for them to come and have a consideration. So we have dropped the stadium because we have asked the other clubs to use there for their league matches. Legon is dropped because we didn’t want to stop the Ghana premier league. We pray we play our category 3 game. Let all work and make we play the Sudan game in Ghana, the NSA board chairman said during a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.

Former General Manager of Wa All Stars, now Legon Cities FC, Seth Panwum was appointed Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) on October 7,2021.

The Black Stars will first host Sudan on October 7 at a venue yet to be confirmed, before travelling to the Al-Merrikh Stadium for the return leg on October 15.
