Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has officially resigned, as confirmed by Citi News.

In his resignation letter addressed to the ECG Board Chairman, Mahama cited personal reasons for his decision to leave the position.

“I am formally resigning from my role as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, effective two weeks from the above date. This decision was not made lightly, but after careful consideration, I have decided that stepping down is in my best interest for personal reasons.”

Mahama expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve ECG over the past two years and four months and thanked the Board for their support. He also extended his appreciation to the President for the trust placed in him, which had been a significant part of his tenure.

His resignation has surprised many in the energy sector, as he had only been in the role since May 16, 2022, following his appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Despite the sudden nature of his departure, no specific reasons have been provided by sources within ECG or the government.

Before becoming Managing Director, Mahama served as a non-executive director at ECG and has a broad background in both the private and public sectors. His previous positions include non-executive director at GIHOC Distilleries, country representative for Gulfsouth Forest Products, and partner at Dubik & Associates and Wilkins Engineering. He is also a legal practitioner and an alumnus of the University of Ghana.
