Ghanaian artists were noticeably absent from the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations, sparking disappointment among fans who have seen stars like Sarkodie and Black Sherif gain international recognition in previous years.

The nomination list, released on September 7, 2024, heavily features Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy and Rema, while no Ghanaian acts made the cut this year.

This comes as a surprise, given Ghana’s previous success on the BET stage. Sarkodie won the Best International Flow category in 2019, and Black Sherif took home the same award in 2023.

The absence of Ghanaian representation in this year’s edition has sparked conversations about the nation’s global influence in hip hop and the steps needed to elevate its artists on the international stage.

The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on October 3, 2024, in Las Vegas, with top nominees including Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion.
