Manuel Life and his running mate, Lawrence Egleh, filed a legal suit challenging their disqualification, citing violations of the SRC constitution and discrimination against non-resident students.

Guru, who was also disqualified due to his non-resident status, filed a petition seeking an interim injunction to halt the elections and overturn the disqualification decision.

The UGSRC Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify the candidates has raised questions about the fairness and inclusivity of the election process. The Judicial Board’s ruling will not only determine the fate of the candidates but also address the broader issue of whether non-resident students should be barred from contesting in SRC elections.
Despite the ongoing legal disputes and controversies, the Electoral Commission is proceeding with the electoral processes as scheduled. The balloting has been completed, and debates among the candidates are underway. Barring any further disruptions, the election is still set to take place on August 26, 2024.
