The University of Ghana Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Prof. Gordon Awandare, has emphasized that his office’s intervention in the issues associated with the vetting of aspirants does not undermine the office of the Dean of Students Affairs.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive (#CampEx) on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Prof. Awandare stated that the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten is managing the students to the best of her ability. He assured that when it is necessary for Management to step in and provide additional support, they will do so without undermining her office.

“We believe that the Dean of Students is doing her best under difficult circumstances because students are difficult to manage. Whenever there is the need for us to step in to support her (like we did yesterday), we will do that. That does not mean we are usurping her authority.”

Prof. Awandare further advised students to refrain from making baseless allegations against the Office of the Dean.

“In the emergency meeting yesterday, we discussed the issue of students making accusations against the Dean and made it clear that we are completely against that. We asked the students to refrain from making allegations without proof. You cannot make allegations based on emotions if there is no evidence of wrongdoing. If there is any, document it properly and present it. Going forward, Management will not tolerate allegations without evidence that tarnish the image of the Dean.”

Prof. Awandare further explained that his intervention in the vetting impasse was prompted by a report from the Dean, Prof. Kyeremanten. She sought support from his office after the EC, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim, failed to cooperate with her measures.
