#UGDecides’24: Roland Oppong files nomination for SRC Treasurer position, relays visions for the role

Third-year student at the University of Ghana, Roland Oppong has filed a nomination form for the position of UGSRC treasurer for the next academic year.

Post nomination-submission, Roland spoke of what stems as his motivation for taking up the position to aspire for SRC Treasurer, one which entails proper funds management for the student’s benefits.

He was interviewed exclusively by UniversNews.

“My motivation to run for SRC treasurer stems from my genuine desire to ensure that the schools funds are managed transparently and efficiently. I have always been passionate about financial management and believe that with my skills and dedications I can contribute positively to the student community.”

He also spoke on some intentions he has for the school populace, should he win the elections.

“I plan to manage the SRC finances transparently, create a clear and assessible budget report, fund initiatives that benefit the student body and ensure all financial decisions are made in the best interest of the students. Additionally, I plan to have an inclusive budget where students can have a say in the budget report.”

Roland Oppong vehemently expressed high chances of winning this year’s SRC elections as treasurer, with what he describes as “running a campaign based on integrity, transparency and dedication to the role.”

“I believe my chances of winning are strong given the positive feedback o have received from my peers. However, I understand thatt winning depends on effectively communicating my plans to the student body. This is why I am fo used on running a campaign based on integrity, transparency and dedication to the role.”

While speaking with UniversNews, Roland Oppong recounted how his past experiences in leadership has led him to his current pursuit as SRC treasurer, citing how such avenues have given him the skills he needs for the position.

“My leadership prowess started far back in SHS when I was serving as the SRC financial secretary in Opoku ware High School. Coming to the University, I have held positions such first deputy of parliament for Jean Nelson hall and the exclusive chairperson for the SRC scholarship scheme. These platforms have provided me with valuable skills such as financial management, team work and problem solving helping to reinforce my commitment to helping serve the entire student body.”
