UG: CoE launches Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa Celebrations

The College of Education at the University of Ghana (UGCoE) has launched its 2024 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA) celebrations.

The launch which was held at the SCDE Video Conference Room on June 13, 2024 afforded an opportunity for the College of Education to take part in the DSRA celebrations done at college levels.

The Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa has instituted by the African Union (AU) seeks to concentrate on science and research conducted in Africa.

The celebration theme, which was ‘Generative AI: African Perspectives on its challenges and prospects’ highlighted the need to embrace the usefulness of Artificial intelligence within science and research.

The launch which was chaired by the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe was attended by Deans, Heads of Department and students from the University.

The launch also encompassed a poster challenge which received poster submissions from various departments and colleges across the University.

Speaking to member of the planning committee for the celebrations, Mrs. Ruby Victoria Kodom, she mentioned the need to contribute to solutions aimed at addressing African challenges through the use of Artificial intelligence.

According to her, the exploration of Artificial intelligence will go a long way to drive continental development and contribute to solutions aimed at tackling Ghanaian problems and African problems in general.

“The day of Scientific renaissance of Africa is instituted by the African Union to focus on the need for the appreciation of research to drive continental development and ensure Africa maintains its relevance as a global player.”

“The theme for the College of Education’s celebration highlights leveraging on the usefulness of Artificial intelligence in order to ensure productivity and efficiency of work and life in general.”

Additionally, Mrs Ruby Victoria Kodom highlighted that the exploration of artificial intelligence has the potential of creating opportunities for the youth.

“We want to focus on the opportunities that are available for the youth in the face of the evolvement of Artificial intelligence.”
