The University of Ghana Student’s Representative Council (UGSRC) Executive Committee has formally dismissed the former SRC Women’s Commissioner (WOCOM), Sandra Amponsah Yeboah through majority votes in favor of earlier attempts to remove her from office.

In a letter addressing the former WOCOM, the SRC explained that her dismissal was done according to the UGSRC constitutional requirements, with a majority Execom votes of 13 against 3 voting in favor of her dismissal.

“I am writing to inform you that, at the instance of the Executive Committee (Execom), the appointing authority of the Women’s Commission of the SRC, and in accordance with Articles 23 and 28 of the SRC Constitution, you have been removed from the office of SRC Women’s Commissioner, effective immediately.”

“This decision was made following a vote by Execom, in which a majority of members (13 against 3) voted in favor of your removal at an Execom sitting on Sunday, 9th June, 2024.”

The letter suggests that her conduct, which violates the SRC constitution and Code of Conduct were factors considered for which majority of the Execom voted for her dismissal.

“The decision to dismiss you was not taken lightly and was made after careful consideration of all relevant factors. The Execom determined that your actions and conduct were in violation of the SRC Constitution and Appointee Code of Conduct, and that you had lost the confidence of the majority of Execom members. Effective immediately, you cease to hold the position of SRC Women’s Commissioner. “

Few weeks earlier, the SRC Judicial Board ruled in favor of Sandra Amponsah, declaring the UGSRC President’s previous dismissal of Amponsah as WOCOM and subsequent appointments as unconstitutional. The Board had reinstated Amponsah as WOCOM and affirmed the proper formation of the Women’s Commission according to the UG SRC Constitution.

Amponsah had been dismissed by Tsikata for allegedly neglecting her duties and disengaging from SRC responsibilities, of which she denied and argued that her dismissal violated the SRC constitution.
