After 16 years of waiting, the people of Sunyani finally witnessed Premier League football again as Bofoakwa Tano secured a spot in the Ghana Premier League after their relegation to the First Division in 2007.

However, their return was short-lived, and they would immediately drop back to the lower division.

Bofoakwa Tano’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League was confirmed following their 1-0 defeat to Legon Cities in the week 32 league fixture on Sunday. The club, which earned promotion to the top flight in the 2023/24 season, has been relegated after just one year in the Premier League.

The club currently occupies the 17th position in the Ghana Premier League with 33 points after 33 games played. With two games to end the season, Bofoakwa Tano will play Berekum Chelsea at home before traveling to play Asante Kotoko in their final fixture. However, even if they win both matches, their points total will still be insufficient to avoid relegation.

Despite their poor form in the Ghana Premier League, Tano Bofoakwa has secured a spot in the MTN FA Cup Finals, where Tano Bofoakwa will face Nsoatreman; bitter rivals. The game is scheduled for June 23, 2024, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The winner of the competition gets the opportunity to represent Ghana at next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
