In this article, we are going to look at players who play in the Ghana Premier League and have been called up to represent their respective countries for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

1. Frederick Asare – Asante Kotoko – Ghana

The Kumasi Asante Kotoko Goalkeeper has been called up as one of the three goalkeepers to represent Ghana in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. The 25-year-old will be in the squad for the second time after honoring his debut call-up in Ghana’s friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda. Frederick Asare has been in superb form for the Porcupine Warriors this season making 17 league appearances, keeping 10 clean sheets, and conceding 10 goals. His team is currently in the 9th position on the Ghana Premier League table with 39 points after 31 games played. Frederick will be hoping to impress Head Coach Otoo Addo when the Black Stars take on Mali on June 6 and the Central African Republic on June 10 in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

2. Glid Jeordon Otanga Mvouo – Hearts of Oak – Congo

Midfielder Glid Otanga has been selected as one of the eight midfielders to represent Congo in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Niger and Morocco. At 23 years old, Otanga has been a standout performer for his club this season, despite Hearts of Oak’s struggles with relegation. Congo has also had a challenging start in the World Cup Qualifiers, still seeking their first win. Otanga’s inclusion is expected to significantly strengthen the team for their matches against Niger on June 6 and Morocco on June 11, 2024.

3. Steven Mukwala Dese – Asante Kotoko – Uganda

After an impressive performance for the Cranes of Uganda in their international friendly game with Ghana, Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s prolific striker Steven Dese Mukwala has been named in Coach Paul Joseph’s squad for their key FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria. The Kotoko striker has scored 14 goals in 27 appearances for his side this season as his club currently occupies the 9th position in the league table after amassing 43 points. The Cranes of Uganada are currently in the 4th position after winning just one out of two games as they prepare to face Botswana on June 7 and Algeria on June 11, 2024.

The Match Day 3 and Match Day 4 of the Qualifiers will be played between the 5th to 11th of June 2024 as Nine African group leaders are guaranteed automatic qualification at the 2026 World Cup.
