WC Qualifiers: Andre Ayew dropped from Ghana’s squad for double header against Mali and CAR

The captain of the Senior National Team( Black Stars) Andre Morgan Ayew has been dropped from Ghana’s squad for the doubleheader World Cup qualifying games against Mali and Central Africa Republic.

This revelation came after the Black Stars head coach Otto Addo announced the full squad for the World Cup qualifiers today at the Ghana Football Association headquarters in Accra.

This will be the fifth time in the past 6 years that the captain of the side missed out on the squad.

The team has had a 25% win rate without the Black Stars captain since 2018.

Other Players left out of Otto Addo’s World Cup qualifiers squad due to injuries include:

Baba Iddrisu
Inaki Williams
Majeed Ashimeru
Joseph Paintsil
Denis Odoi
Daniel Amartey
Nathaniel Adjei
Kofi Kyereh

New inclusions to the Black Stars Squad consist of :

Thomas Partey

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder made his last appearance with the senior national team in their 2-0 and 4-0 losses against Mexico and the United States of America, respectively in October’s friendlies.

Kamaldeen Sulemana

Sulemana returns to the Black Stars squad after missing out on the previous matches. The Southampton winger will be playing Premier League football next season.

Brandon Thomas-Asante

Brandon makes the squad for the upcoming qualifiers. He was a part of the provisional squad for the 2022 AFCON but missed out.
Thomas-Asante was the top scorer for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship this season.

The four-time African champions will travel to Bamako to face Mali on June 6 before engaging the Central African Republic four days later in Kumasi.

The Black Stars won their first game of the qualifiers against Madagascar before suffering a shocking defeat in Moroni to Comoros.
