Ghana’s Amputee team, the Black Challenge, kick started their African Amputee Cup of Nations (AAFCON 2024 )campaign with a scintillating performance and stumping 4-0 win over Gambia on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.

Goals from Hamza Mohammed, Yussif Yahaya, and Mubarak Mohammed, who banged two great goals, proved enough for the Black Challenge to grab all the 3 points and secure their first win in the AAFCON tournament.

Ghana, who have won the previous two editions of the tournament, aim to become the first nation in the history of the competition to win three successive crowns, but have to battle against the other group C countries — Algeria and Kenya— in order to guarantee themselves a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.

The Black Challenge will face the North African side, Algeria on May 20, 2024, before they battle it out in their last group stage match on May 21, 2024, against Kenya at Petrol Sports Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

The two-time AAFCON winners would be hoping to capitalize on the perfect start as a confidence booster in their quest to defend the coveted trophy and qualify for the 2026 World Cup, counting on the experience of veteran players in the side to attain those feats.
