Head coach of Southampton football club , Russel Martin has confirmed the unavailability of Ghanaian winger, Kamaldeen Sulemana due to a hamstring injury sustained, which rules him out of the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to kick off in La Côte d’Ivoire in January.

Kamaldeen Sulemana had already been named in Ghana’s 55-man provisional squad for the competition before the occurrence of the injury.

Meanwhile, the player is currently out of action for the saints after he suffered a hamstring injury against Bristol city and is expected to recover towards the end of January, making it unlikely for him to be part of Ghana’s final squad despite being named in the provisional list.

With the tournament starting on January 13 and concluding on February 11, Russel Martin is certain Sulemana’s recuperation schedule extends past the competitions date.

“Kamaldeen won’t be in the squad. I’m sure I’ll chat to Chris (Hughton) about where he is in his fitness. He is going to be nowhere near ready for that. He won’t go

“Kamaldeen will be fit towards the end of January or the start of February. This could change, I don’t know (for sure),” he added.

As stated earlier this week by Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi, Sulemana’s absence extends the list of players barred from the competition, which also includes Tariq Lamptey of Brighton.

The former Stade Rennes winger, Sulemana, previously competed for the Black Stars in Cameroon during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations but failed to score a goal or register an assist.
