Facility manager of the newly constructed University of Ghana Toyota Training Centre, Prof. Abu Yaya has revealed that the University will be running short courses to generate income to maintain the facility.
In an interview on Campus Exclusive this morning, he explained that the course will be ran at an approved fee for individuals who would like to take some automobile courses and other affiliated courses at the center.
“We are going to run modus or modular courses to introduce people who are interested in automobile training to come and enroll in that program for a fee. So, all these will maintain the facility.”
The center, he said, will provide students with first-hand training in engineering and prepare them for the job market.
Prof. Yaya further mentioned that the school is working actively on introducing three courses in addition to the existing ones.
“The school of engineering is looking on to add three programs based on industry demand. Now we want to add aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, and automobile engineering.”
According to him, the courses will be ready for enrollment in the next academic year after successfully going through the university’s quality assurance unit.
In conclusion, Prof. Yaya expressed the importance of the new facility to the development of students of the school. He revealed that the center will provide students with first-hand training in engineering and prepare them for the job market.
“The main important thing here is that, industries often complain that our students are not industry read, so this training center is a way to introduce a kind of hands-on training for our students to be able to know what is existing in the industry so that when they go, they will not be left behind.”
On 29th October, 2023, the University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana Company Limited (TGCL) successfully commissioned the state-of-the-art University of Ghana–Toyota Ghana School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre. The grand ceremony took place at the forecourt of the facility and showcased the collaboration between academia and industry, emphasizing the significance of partnerships and continuity. Present at the occasion was the minister of education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Chairman of the university council Rtd. Justice Sophia Akuffo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, immediate past vice chancellor, deans, head of departments, and lecturers.
