Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs drew 2-2 on Sunday in a derby at the Emirates Stadium in a pulsating English Premier League (EPL) fixture.
The derby between the two London club rivals is widely known as the North London derby per their geographical location.
It was the first time in the history of the English Premier League that Arsenal faced Tottenham Hotspurs in a Premier League encounter with both teams undefeated.
Spurs shot themselves in the foot as Argentine defender and World Cup winner Christian Romero put the ball through his own net to put the Gunners ahead on the 26th minute. Bukayo Saka cut in from the right wing and struck a shot that deflected off Romero’s knee and flew into the net.
Spurs captain, Heung-Min Son capitalized on Arsenal’s defensive error and produced a deft finish from James Madison’s low cross shortly before halftime.
The visitors grew into the game heading into the break with James Maddison proving to be a menace for Arsenal’s defense.
The Pandemonium swang towards the red side of North London in the 53rd minute as defender Ben White’s shot struck Christian Romero’s outstretched arm, leaving English referee, Robert Jones with no option than awarding a penalty kick to the Gunners.
He was called to the monitors by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for clarification on the incident and he awarded the penalty after consultation with the side monitors.
Arsenal’s star boy, Bukayo Saka stepped up and converted from the penalty spot to restore Arsenal’s lead.
Unfortunately, the home team’s lead was short-lived as James Maddison was at the thick of events once again.
Maddison robbed Arsenal substitute Jorginho off possession before racing through on goal and slipping in Son Heung Min, who placed his low drilled finish into the left hand corner to restore parity.
Tottenham Captain, Son Heung-Min’s brace meant that he became the first ever Tottenham player to score twice in a Premier League North London Derby at the Emirates Stadium.
A draw was just about the fair result as both sides remained undefeated in the league this season with 14 points from six games, although both dropped down in the table.
Spurs now sit fourth in the EPL table with 14 points after six matches, the same as fifth-placed Arsenal, though with a superior goal difference.
Manchester City are leaders on the table with 18 points, followed by Liverpool with 16 and Brighton and Hove Albion with 15 points.
Mikel Arteta’s side will face Bournemouth on Sunday whiles Spurs Ange Postecoglou team take on Liverpool in the English Premier League Match-day 7.
