Ninety Ghanaians who were illegally residing in the United Arab Emirates have arrived in the country between May 19 and May 20,2023.

The deportees arrived in 2 batches via Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines, and were taken through arrival formalities at the Kotoka International Airport before being handed over to officers from the National Investigation Bureau for further investigations.

According to multiple news sources, majority of them were recruited through crook recruitment agencies and travelled to the UAE illegally whilst others overstayed their visas .

It is gathered that more than 400 of such persons are still in Dubai with a number of them in custody after being recruited by  fake travel agents with the promise of highly lucrative jobs in store for them upon their arrival only to be met with disappointment.

Sources close to the Ghana Immigration Service indicate that more deportees are expected in the coming days as the initial arrival is just a fraction of the general group .

Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration had served noticed of processes being triggered in collaboration with their Emirati authorities to deport 431 Ghanaian nationals in detention.

The deportees comprise 341 males, 88 females and two children below age 5.
