Nigeria’s U17 female team has secured a berth in the final of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup, following their win over counterparts Benin in the semi-finals with both goals coming in the second half at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The Flamingos reached the final having scored 14 goals in three matches, conceding only two.
Nigeria took the lead in the 70th minute when Mary Lucky Mkp scored from the penalty spot. The team’s lead was extended eight minutes later, courtesy of Peace Effiong, who seized on a goalkeeping error to score.
They will now clash with Ghana’s Black Maidens, who were relentless in their pursuit of victory, with star forward Christana Ashiaku delivering a first-half hat-trick that set the tone for the final match.
In the second half, Zipporah Ayantoya and Seidatu Wahab added to the tally, cementing Ghana’s place in the final of the inaugural tournament.
Ghana’s Black Maidens defender, Latifa Musah was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) following her stellar performance in the team’s dominant 5-0 victory over Ivory Coast.
The final of the inaugural WAFU B U17 Girls Cup will take place on Sunday, December 22 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, promising an exciting contest between Nigeria and Ghana.
