The National Voters’ Exhibition exercise has continued to experience a disappointing turnout, even six days after its commencement. The exercise, which began on Tuesday, August 20th, has seen minimal participation, with only a small number of registered voters visiting the centers to verify their details.

On the University of Ghana campus, some of the designated centers include Legon Main Hall, Akuafo Hall, and Elizabeth Sey Hall, among others.

Speaking to Univers News, Laureen, an agent stationed at the voters’ exhibition center at Legon Hall, expressed concerns about the low participation, particularly among students. She noted that while some lecturers and other university staff have participated, student turnout has been notably poor.

“The student participation is very low. As for the lecturers and those coming from outside, it’s not that high either, but we just have to manage with what we get.”

Laureen suggested that the low turnout might be due to the availability of a shortcode that allows people to check their registration status remotely. She pointed out that in the span of three days, they had only seen around 15 people at the station, highlighting the concerning situation.

“But I think it’s because there is a short code out. That’s why most people are not coming.
We have 10 stations here and in total. We can only report about 15 people for about three days now, so it is very poor.”

She urged all Ghanaians to recognize their collective responsibility in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of active participation to ensure the right leadership is elected.

“The decision to bring out a president is based on all of us. And if you don’t vote, maybe someone you don’t like will be in power. So, it’s best to come and vote register. Come and check your name and vote.”
