Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Wode Maya, has opened up about the inspiration he draws from dancehall star Shatta Wale, crediting the musician’s consistency as a major influence in his own career journey.
Speaking in an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey on YouTube, Wode Maya revealed that during his school days, he was searching for someone to look up to in terms of persistence and commitment. He said he found that model in Shatta Wale.
“When I was in school, I was looking for somebody to look up to in terms of consistency, and I didn’t get anyone like Shatta Wale. This guy created a studio in his house and every day he was releasing music. I decided to pick that consistency and start uploading all the time,” he explained.
Wode Maya further shared that Shatta Wale’s 2018 hit song My Level deeply resonated with him at a time when he was broke but still held dreams of providing for his family.
“At that time, I didn’t have anything, but I used to hear him sing about buying a motor for his mom. When I made my first $10,000, his song came to mind again, and I decided to buy a car for my mom before even buying one for myself,” he recalled.
According to him, his mother was overwhelmed when he surprised her with the gift: “She cried.”
Wode Maya emphasised that beyond the music, it was Shatta Wale’s relentless consistency and determination that motivated him to keep pushing in his own career as a content creator.
