Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission of the National Union of Ghana students, Daniel Asare has been emphatic on the commission’s strict adherence to the publicized elections’ timelines.

He made this emphasis in an exclusive interview on Campus Exclusive.

The NUGS-EC PRO remarked that delegates would have to comply by the rules set for the elections to ensure that time is used accordingly.

“We are going to start at 9 in the morning. I’m hoping that by 9, if delegates comply by the rules and regulations given, by 5 or 6pm, we should be done with the elections. It will only extend when delegates are not compliant with the rules and regulations. I’m going to promise you that we will try as much as possible to make sure we stick to the time we have given.”

However, he quickly added that, he can not promise that there will be no concerning issuesel within the elections. He however expressed confidence over the commission’s efforts to work in the time range given.

”I can’t promise you a 100% perfect election; even if I do that, I think I’ll be a public critic. But I know and I understand that the system is going to work as such that we will be in the time range we have given.”

Daniel Asare also revealed that elections would be held manually as all previous elections have.

”The constitution doesn’t make provision for us to discuss the mode by which the election will be going. It doesn’t give us the opportunity to call all members of the Ghana students community to come and sit down and ask them whether they like a manual system or an online system.
But the system is such that we have resorted to the manual system every time. And as such we are going by it.”

He assured that the elections would be transparent in nature.

“We are going to have a transparent [elections] of course. One that everyone would have some k‏ind of hope in. That it’s really going to bring some form of development to the union itself.”

The NUGS Elections are expected to be held on the 9th of July, 2023.
