Head of Junior High School and Deputy Head Master of the University of Ghana Basic School; Eric Sifa is optimistic that the University of Ghana Basic School will emerge as the overall winners in the 2023 University Basic Schools Sports Association Games (UBASSA).
Speaking on Campus Exclusive, Mr. Sifa claimed that the University of Ghana Basic School sport contingent is ready to host and win this year’s edition.
“I can say the University of Ghana Basic School is ready to host and win again. The last time we hosted we were the first and we call it host and win and that was pre-Covid. This is about our second time hosting and we intend to host and win around this time because it is going to be historical for us as we celebrate UGis75 anniversary.”
Meanwhile; the Chairman of the Arrangement Committee; Daniel Baidoo also assured participants of making this year’s games a memorable experience for them.
“University of Ghana is the premier University and as such all the necessary arrangement in respect to accommodation, feeding and whatever are ready. We don’t give room for mediocrity because we are excellent in everything that we do. And so, we are promising a memorable experience for our guests.”
School Prefect of the University of Ghana Basic School; Pauline Appiah Richter called on the general public to support the students taking part in the games in every way possible.
“I am hopeful that we will emerge victorious in the various disciplines. I want to use this opportunity to thank our teachers and sport contingent for availing themselves to represent the school. I wish them the very best of luck. Also, I want to call on our parents, guardians, and the general public to support us in every way possible. We need your support in prayers and in kind to make these games a success.”
The 2023 University Basic Schools Sports Association Games (UBASSA) is expected to begin from the 1st to the 6th of May; 2023 at the University of Ghana Athletic Oval and the Mensah Sarbah football park. Participating schools include the University of Ghana Basic School, University of Cape Coast (UCC) Basic School, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic School, University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Basic School and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Basic School.
The disciplines that will hold competition at the games include Athletics (Both Field and Track events), Football and Table Tennis. The theme for this year’s game is: “Celebrating UG’s 75 years of Excellence and Nurturing Resilience through Sports.”
