The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has resumed full official duties effective May 26, after taking a three-week sick leave outside the shores of the country to recover from a recent illness.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang was reported ill on Friday, March 28, after the close of work and was subsequently treated at the University of Ghana Medical Centre before doctors advised that she seek specialist care abroad to aid her full recovery.
After the process, her specialist doctors advised her to take a three-week medical leave for full recuperation, which began on April 7 this year.
A statement from the Presidency revealed that the second most powerful person in the land had a meeting with political appointees at the Jubilee House as part of her initial schedule upon resumption of her duties.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, welcomed her back to the country on behalf of the team and conveyed the happiness of the officials on seeing the Vice President back to optimal health.
Speaking in a brief engagement with the officials, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang thanked them for their best wishes and prayers during her period of illness and praised them for the selfless work they have been carrying out to support the vision of President Mahama aimed at resetting the country and restoring its path to progress and prosperity.
I implore us all to press forward with renewed energy and verve in helping our boss ( President Mahama) to achieve his heartfelt vision of resetting our country and pushing us towards a shared prosperity that helps all Ghanaians to reach their fullest potential. The job has just started, and we must gird our loins for the journey ahead. I am equally grateful for your non-stop prayers for me during my period of illness, may God replenish all your efforts in manifold ways as we serve the motherland.
Vice President Agyemang also acknowledged the overwhelming support she received from all corners – medical professionals, government leadership to family, friends and the general public.
She extended special thanks to her boss, President John Mahama, recalling how he responded swiftly in a time of need.
To my dearest boss, President Mahama – that fateful day of my illness, I did not know where he appeared from, but he made sure we took all the required steps to remedy the situation, for which I am eternally grateful.

The Chief Executive of the largest indigenous mining firm in West Africa (Engineers and Planners) and brother to the President, Ibrahim Mahama, also got a special mention from the Vice President for the personal care he took to make sure she had the best of medical care during the period.
Mr Ibrahim Mahama deserves special mention for the personal care and devotion he gave to me during the period to guarantee my full recovery, and I say God richly bless him for his support.
