The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has inspected the UGBS New Lecture Hall Project Phase II.
The visit, which took place earlier today, brought together key stakeholders, including the outgoing and incoming deans of the University of Ghana Business School, members of the university’s projects team, and other senior officials.
Commending the team for their dedication and progress,Prof Amfo urged them to ensure the project is completed by the September deadline.
”I must say that I am pleased with what I have seen so far, with the progress so far. We are not there yet, but I’m happy with the progress so far. So I’d like to commend all of you, and by so doing also to remind you that the September date is registered in my mind. I am coming here in September to commission this building.”
The outgoing dean, Professor Justice Bawole, also praised the team and noted that all necessary resources have been made available. He emphasized that the onus now lies with the contractors to deliver the project on time.
”Well, not to say much after the landlady has spoken, but let me reiterate the point that the vice chancellor has made. To thank everybody involved in this. This is a huge project, and it takes a lot of resilience to finish it the way and how far we’ve gone. Nonetheless, it’s important that we respect our timelines, because all of those have implications for costs, and it’s public money we are using.”
Commissioned in July 2023, the project is currently 93% complete based on the original scope, and 78% complete including all approved variations. It is expected to be ready by September 2025.
Once completed, the facility will feature an amphitheater, lecture halls, nurseries, office spaces, and 30 classrooms capable of accommodating approximately 1,300 students. According to Augustus Richardson, lead architect at Mobius Architecture, the building will also be the first in Ghana to feature lattice roofing — marking a significant innovation in the country’s construction landscape.
