Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana, Dr. Austin Wontepaga Luguterah has mentioned that the 2024 GUSA games will serve as a preparation for the first West African University Games, which will be hosted by the University of Ghana.
Addressing University of Ghana athletes ahead of the 2024 Ghana Universities Sports Association(GUSA) games, Dr. Austin stressed the importance of performing well to ensure the university can host and win the West Africa University Games in 2025.
“We will be hosting the west Africa university games here in legon, University of Ghana so this competition is going to beef us up to prepare for other universities and you know the normal slogan “host and win” but we can only that if we prepare ourselves properly. By doing that, we need to go to cape coast, see it, conquer and come back. So when we come back we will now hope to conquer West Africa so that we can all be proud of the team that hosted the west Africa university games and won. GUSA is a preparatory stage towards that level. We are using GUSA to test and play ourselves out and pick something out of it – he said.
The 2024 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games will be hosted by the University of Cape Coast from January 3 to 18, 2025. The theme for the games, “Repositioning University Sports for National Development” underscores the fact that sports play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of individuals and the entire nation.
