University of Ghana sanctions 115 students, expels three for exam impersonation

The University of Ghana has publicly sanctioned 115 students for various acts of misconduct, including the expulsion of three individuals for impersonation during examinations.

The sanctions were detailed in an official notice from the Office of the Registrar dated June 16, 2025, and signed by Registrar Emelia Agyei-Mensah. The decision to publish the names of disciplined students follows a resolution by the University’s Academic Board. The notice outlines a wide range of offenses and corresponding penalties.

Key Sanctions Imposed:

  1. Major Suspensions for Disorderly Conduct

Fourteen students, including Abdul-Yakini Lukman, Daniel Ansah, and Daniel Deary, received suspensions covering two academic years (2023/2024 and 2024/2025) for disorderly conduct and failure to observe the orders of University authorities, in violation of Statute 42(1)(a). Notably, Lukman’s suspension will run concurrently with an earlier sanction.

  1. Expulsion for Examination Impersonation

Three students were expelled for impersonation during examinations—an offense under Regulation 11.12:

  • Christian Owusu Yeboah (ID: 10969509)
  • Linda Attah Lambongyi (ID: 10965543)
  • Doris Bikpe (ID not provided in excerpt)

Their misconduct occurred during the MKTG301 and UGBS103 exams.

  1. Grade Z Sanctions for Examination Malpractice

Eighty-eight students received Grade Z in specific courses for various forms of malpractice. Offenses included:

  • Leaving the exam hall with an answer booklet – Ramsey Akoto Junior
  • Communication or copying during exams – e.g., Bernard Owusu Boateng, Samuel Apatewen Adochim
  • Possession of unauthorized materials (written notes, annotated IDs) – e.g., Mary Amoani, Ishmael Sagoe
  • Displaying answers on the body – Brian Yaw Sedem Kpeto, Duncan Budu
  • Passing/receiving information – e.g., Richmond Tetteh, Naphtali Kojo Gyansah
  • Copying from unauthorized materials – Numerous students across various courses
  1. Grade X and Additional Sanctions

Twenty students were issued Grade X penalties, mostly for possessing unauthorized electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones, smartwatches), or for communicating during exams. Examples include:

  • Gilbert Kusi Agyemang, Derrick Mensah, Michael Ashirifi Gogoe – possession of electronic devices
  • Charles Ofosu Boateng, Newlove Jasmine, Patrick Opoku – communication during exams

Additional notable cases:

  • Eugene Nimo Obeng – received Grade Z and a one-semester suspension for possession of unauthorized material and exposing answers
  • Lilian N.L. Miller – received Grade Z and a one-semester suspension for similar offenses in two exams
  • Cobbina Sonia Anna Yeboah – received Grade Z and was required to write an apology for exiting the exam hall with an answer booklet
  1. Reprimands

Three students were formally reprimanded:

  • Fatimah Iddriss – for rude behavior towards an invigilator
  • Justice Nii-Amo – for communicating during an exam
