University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Professor, Robert Ebo Hinson, has stated that universities seeking to transform student experience must look beyond infrastructure development and place greater emphasis on service culture, support systems, and meaningful student engagement.
Delivering the keynote address at the University of Ghana Student Experience Conference on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Professor Hinson stressed that student experience extends far beyond lecture halls and physical facilities.
According to him, it encompasses every academic, social, emotional, physical, and administrative interaction students encounter throughout their university journey.
“Student experience is not simply about what students learn in the classroom. It is about every interaction they have with the institution, from admission to graduation and beyond,” he said.
Speaking on the theme, “Transforming Student Experience Through Service Excellence and Innovation,” he argued that the true measure of a university’s success lies not only in academic excellence but also in how students feel about their overall campus experience.
Professor Hinson emphasised that universities that prioritise positive student experiences are more likely to produce graduates who become ambassadors of their institutions, while poor experiences can negatively affect institutional reputation and student loyalty.
“A university rises or falls not only because it is ranked number one for research output, but also because of the emotions we create when students come through,” he said.
“A student who is respected, well taught, and supported through difficulties will become an ambassador. If we support them well, they will go out and become ambassadors and walking billboards,” he added.
