Actor and parliamentary candidate representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Mr. John Dumelo has called on the media to exercise caution in their reportage of news.
He advocated for circumspection, fairness, and honesty in media reporting. According to him, aligning with these principles will prevent the incitement of unnecessary tension and pressure in the community.
He made this statement during an exclusive interview with Univers News at the launch of the 30th anniversary celebration of Radio Univers, dubbed UniversAt30, at the University of Ghana School of Law auditorium.
“I think that the media should be very circumspect with their reportage. They should be fair and honest, and they shouldn’t fear anybody. They should report what is on the ground, and I think once media houses toe this line, they will be very credible so that they don’t incite unnecessary pressure and tension in town. These days, we have media stations that are not credible; we know them, and the ones that are credible too, we know them.”
Mr. Dumelo commended Radio Univers for its contribution to training and producing numerous exceptional journalists in the country.
“I can say that Radio Univers has done well. If you look at most of the great journalists in this country today, they started from Radio Univers. Radio Univers is a place where the next talents are groomed. They align people’s aspirations in terms of media. It’s one of the few radio stations that align people’s ambitions in terms of media. It’s like a steppingstone; almost everybody steps into Radio Univers before they step outside.”
Concerning his campaign and the forthcoming elections, he asserted their readiness for victory, emphasizing the importance of working smart rather than merely hard. He also stressed the inevitability of change and encouraged the constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon to anticipate significant improvements in the constituency post 2024.
