The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) has announced that its new shuttle service for non-resident students will begin operation on Monday, August 11, 2025.

‎The transport initiative, which is expected to ease commuting challenges faced by students living off-campus, was initially scheduled to launch on Wednesday August 6. However, it has been temporarily delayed due to issues with data collection and system preparation.

‎According to the SRC Public Relations Officer, John Arthur, the council had asked students to fill a form indicating their preferred pick-up locations across Accra, but many failed to do so, leaving gaps in the data.

‎“We brought out a notice for students to submit their pick-up points, but most didn’t fill the forms, so a lot of places were not captured,” he explained.

‎The new transport system will be supported by a mobile application that allows students to load money using mobile money and pay digitally for bus rides.

‎“That’s why we indicated on the flyer that payment is by mobile money only. You load your wallet on the app and use it for boarding the bus,” he said.

‎Arthur clarified that the service has not been cancelled or indefinitely postponed but was only paused to ensure a smoother experience for students.

‎“We just want to make sure students are familiar with the app before the full rollout. That’s why it hasn’t started yet,” he added.

‎The SRC is confident that the service will be fully operational by Monday, with students properly onboarded on how to use the app. The council believes this will improve campus accessibility and reduce stress for non-residents.
