A freshly emerged audio recording has the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council Electoral Commission (UGSRC EC) Chairman, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim, lobbying for a merger deal between presidential aspirants.

Radio Univers has exclusively obtained an audio recording of a phone call purportedly between the EC Chair and an active presidential candidate in the 2024 SRC elections.

In the three minutes long interaction, a voice suspected to be that of the EC Chair, Mudasir, is heard impressing upon Presidential candidate, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah known as “Manuel Life” to select a particular running mate.

“I see that if you two come together, it will be formidable. I was working on it,” he said.

During the conversation, Manuel Life expressed concerns about the candidate Mudasir suggested, noting that the candidate was not welcoming and was unwilling to be his running mate. Mudasir responded,

“I have been working on it, and I can see he is ready for it (merging with Manuel Life). It is normal for him to be hesitant about being the vice; it is all about dialogue. It is better you merge with him rather than go with someone you do not know. The ball is in your court; this is all I can do.”

Manuel Life also proposed to the EC that he should speak with Rockson, who had withdrawn from the race, to pair with him, but the EC refused, stating,

“Those conversations I am not part of. You do not know how I see you, and I am being careful, so if you are not interested, you have already made your decision.”

Manuel Life questioned why this suggestion was not made earlier, as he and his team had already begun discussions. The EC replied,

“I couldn’t inform you earlier because there was an ongoing conversation about you and Abigail. It is still ongoing.”

Ultimately, Manuel Life filed to contest as the UGSRC presidential aspirant with Lawrence Egleh as his running mate.
