Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, plans to petition the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) Judicial Board after being disqualified from the UGSRC presidential election.
On Friday, August 16, 2024, the UGSRC Electoral Commission (EC) Vetting Committee announced the vetting results, which included Guru’s disqualification due to his non-residential status, a violation of Article 30(1)(a) of the UGSRC Constitution.
Speaking on Radio Univers’ midday news, Andy Otchere Asante, also known as Andy Dot Com and the head of Guru’s campaign team, stated that they have referred the matter to their legal team, who are considering petitioning the UGSRC Judicial Board.
“Guru is fully qualified to contest in the UGSRC elections. He has the right to vote and to be voted for. Disqualifying him solely based on his non-residential status is unjustified. There’s an incumbent executive who was non-resident when he contested last year, so what’s different now? This seems like a deliberate move against Guru. We have handed it over to our legal team to explore legal action,” he said.
He added that the disqualification has not impacted Guru or his campaign team, as they had anticipated such a move.
“The disqualification hasn’t affected us, and we’re not surprised either. We knew they started scheming against him long before he even filed to contest. This is just the culmination of their plan,” he remarked.
