The Matchday 13 fixtures of the ongoing University of Ghana Corporate Football League delivered thrilling action, dramatic goals, and standout individual performances.
GNPC 1-0 CBAS
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) secured their first win of the competition in a dominant performance against the College of Basic And Applied Sciences (CBAS). From the first whistle, they dictated the tempo with end-to-end attacking play. The breakthrough came from the penalty spot, confidently converted to seal the win. While CBAS showed flashes of promise, GNPC’s control in the first half proved decisive.
COE 0-4 Union Ghana
The Union Ghana put on a commanding display, handing the College of Education (COE) a heavy defeat. The scoring started early when Newton Tackie’s dangerous cross was unfortunately turned in by a COE defender. The hosts’ woes deepened after their goalkeeper handled the ball outside the box, setting the tone for a long day. Newton Tackie later added a goal to his name, capping off a complete performance.
Notably, COE and CBAS were among the top two in the 200M event, but their footballing form couldn’t match their track achievements.
GAFOSC 3-0 CHS
The Ghana Armed Forces Sports Club (GAFOSC) looked unstoppable in their clash with the College of Health Sciences (CHS). Former King Faisal talisman Michael Amu broke the deadlock and set the tone for a dominant second-half display. A well-worked team move led to a clinical low-driven finish for the second, and relentless pressure saw them grab a third, sealing a commanding win.
GFA 0-1 COH
The Ghana Football Association’s struggles continued as they remain winless in the tournament. Despite the absence of former Black Stars defender John Paintsil, GFA couldn’t find a way past a resolute College of Humanities (COH) side. COH snatched a narrow 1-0 win, capitalising on GFA’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
In the 400M event, Armed Forces and the GFA claimed Top 3 finishes, showing strength on the track, if not on the pitch.
As the tournament heats up, teams like Union Ghana and GAFOSC are finding their rhythm, while others like GFA and COE face mounting pressure to turn things around. With strong showings both on the track and on the field, the competition promises even more drama in the coming rounds.
