Medical doctor and public health advocate, Dr. Tsion Dinku Bulgu, has revealed that the University Health Services Directorate is working closely with the Ghana Health Service and the District Health Directorate to contain the spread of the virus.
This follows a communiqué issued on Monday, June 23, 2025, by the University Health Services Directorate confirming both suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases on campus and in surrounding areas.
In response to the resurgence, the University has reactivated COVID-19 safety protocols across all health facilities.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers, Dr. Bulgu noted that the University is in a stronger position now than during the initial outbreak.
“We’re working hand-in-hand with the Ghana Health Service. At both centres, screening, contact tracing, and awareness-raising are actively underway. We’ve been carrying out surveillance even before these new cases emerged, which helped us detect them early. It’s a good sign that we are more prepared than during the first wave,” she said.
She added that health screenings are currently ongoing at both the student clinic and the main hospital.
“Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms can visit either facility. Swab samples will be taken, and results communicated in due time,” she assured.
