The University of Ghana has issued a directive to regulate the issuance of introductory letters for visa and passport applications following concerns over fraudulent documents.

According to a notice from the Registrar, the University has recently received an increasing number of requests from embassies to verify the employment or student status of individuals claiming affiliation with the institution.

Some of these checks have revealed the use of falsified introductory letters to support visa applications.

To address the issue and protect the integrity of the University, management has indicated that all requests for introductory letters will now be processed strictly through designated offices only.

The notice further instructs all other units not listed among the approved channels to immediately stop issuing such letters.

It also warns that any staff or student found involved in the production or use of fraudulent introductory letters will face internal disciplinary action, and may also be subject to criminal prosecution.

The University is therefore urging full compliance from all employees and students.
