Students of the University of Ghana have expressed support for Ghanaian music artiste Wendy Shay, commending her mature and professional handling of a recent dispute involving her protégé, Tracy Shay.
The controversy emerged after Wendy Shay took to social media to express her frustration that Tracy’s parents allowed the young performer to appear at a concert without her prior knowledge. The singer noted that such actions undermined the mentorship relationship and complicated efforts to groom Tracy within the music industry.
In reactions shared with Univers Entertainment, many students described Wendy Shay’s response as measured and appropriate given the delicate circumstances.
“I think she handled it the right way — she spoke her truth without attacking anyone, particularly the kid in question,” said one student.
“For someone in her position, she showed professionalism and restraint,” another student added.
“She didn’t stoop to insults or rash comments. That says a lot about her character,” a third student commented.
The matter has since sparked broader public conversations about mentorship, communication and the role of parental involvement in the careers of young artistes. Many observers have echoed the students’ views, highlighting the importance of clear boundaries and mutual respect in professional relationships.
