The Deputy Head of the Safety and Security Directorate at the University of Ghana, Major Thomas Aquinas Tierzagl, has advised all freshers to be wary of fraudulent schemes on campus.

The caution follows numerous reports received by the Directorate regarding a rise in the activities of fraudsters within the university community.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive on January 27, 2026, Major Tierzagl cautioned students against being swayed by random individuals who may appear overly attractive or sympathetic, urging them to remain vigilant at all times.

“Simply put, do not yield to anyone who calls out to you on a walkway saying, ‘Hey, can you give me directions to this place?’ If you know the way, just say, ‘Okay, I can give you directions.

Go this way—maybe 30, 50, or 100 metres—and then you will see the building.’ But do not go close to the person or allow them to attempt anything inappropriate,” he said.

He revealed that National Signals Drone Ghana has been engaged to install additional cameras at strategic locations across the University and warned that any wrongdoing will not go unnoticed, as perpetrators will be tracked and apprehended.

“We are really working. We have strategic points where the cameras we have now are installed, and we even have the National Signals Bureau in Ghana coming to install more CCTV cameras to achieve the ambition we want. That way, at any corner, whatever you are doing, you should never think of an escape. We will get you,” he stated.
