The University of Ghana School of Graduate Studies (UG-SGS) with the Graduates Students Association of Ghana- Legon (GRASAG) have held their maiden research exhibition conference.
This was part UG-SGS’ 60th anniversary celebrations dubbed “60 Years of Graduate Training at the University of Ghana: Repositioning for Global Impact”. The exhibiton conference was held from the 26th to the 27th June, 2023 at the Cedi Conference Center.
The conference included a mini conference for graduate students to present their research projects and findings and an anniversary lecture on the anniversary theme by the former dean of the school, Prof. Jacob Songsore. The College of Education, School of Humanities, College of Health Sciences and Applied Sciences had various graduate students presenting research projects on the literature behind some languages, effect of the consumption of powdered mixture of pumpkin sesame and flax seeds on serum iron and zinc levels of Wister rats among many others.
President of GRASAG, Peter Mensah revealed that the mini conference was held as an avenue for graduate students to project their research findings and ensure that their research is able to attract key organizations that would provide adequate support for their research.
“We have a number of our graduate students who are engaged in intensive research work which need to be projected so as GRASAG together with the School of Graduate Studies we are poised to do our best to cushion our students in projecting their intellectual works. And as part of this arrangement we are trying to engage some organizations to ensure that some of these wonderful presentations will not only be limited to the confines of this auditorium.”
Organizing secretary for GRASAG, Brian Isaaka also added that the program is seeking to encourage research among graduate students.
“This program is the first research exhibition conference that we have organized as an association GRASAG and we are seeking to more or less like encourage research graduate students.”
He spoke of initiatives being undertaken by GRASAG to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among graduate students in Ghana.
“In line with research programs, we are looking at having this as a yearly event. In line with that too, we also have research clinics that are more or less like helping students to be able to write good thesis, to be able to write good articles for publication.”
