Management of the University of Ghana (UG) has directed members of the university community and the general public to conduct all physical exercise activities away from the Convocation Group of Buildings after 7:30 a.m. on weekdays.
The directive, contained in a letter dated January 30, 2026, applies to areas around the Registry, other administrative offices, and academic facilities.
According to management, the measure is aimed at ensuring smooth and uninterrupted access to university facilities for staff and students, as well as safeguarding exercise participants from increased vehicular movement during official working hours.
“To ensure that the core academic and administrative activities of the University proceed smoothly, Management requests that after 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, all exercise activities be conducted away from the Convocation Group of Buildings (Registry), other administrative areas, and academic facilities. This measure is intended to allow staff and students to access their offices, lecture halls, and laboratories without hindrance, and to ensure the safety of those exercising, as vehicular movement begins in these areas with the start of the official workday,” the statement said.
While acknowledging the campus’s growing use as a hub for physical exercise, management reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy living among staff, students, and the public.
Participants were encouraged to make use of other designated exercise areas, particularly facilities supervised by the University’s Sports and Wellness Directorate during weekdays.
“Management of the University of Ghana has observed with pleasure that employees, students, and members of the public regularly use the University campus for physical exercise. The University welcomes and fully endorses healthy living and wellness, and we are pleased that our campus continues to serve not only as a hill of learning, but also as a space that promotes physical activity and well-being,” the statement noted.
“Employees and students of the University, as well as members of the public, are encouraged to make use of other designated areas, including facilities under the University’s Sports and Wellness Directorate, on weekdays,” it added.
Management expressed appreciation for the cooperation of campus users, noting that maintaining a safe environment is key to supporting both academic excellence and healthy lifestyles.
