The University of Ghana has officially launched the rollout of its Leadership Modules Programme, designed to enhance the leadership capabilities of faculty, staff, and students, thereby contributing to the institution’s growth and development.
The event, organized under the auspices of the Legon Leadership Academy, took place on January 29, 2025, at the Cedi Conference Centre.
The ceremony was attended by key university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, along with faculty, staff, and students.
Delivering her address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the academy’s long-term vision of deliberately nurturing leaders within the university and beyond.
She stressed the importance of intentional leadership training to ensure that anyone assuming a leadership role—whether student, staff, or faculty, has undergone the necessary preparation through the Legon Leadership Academy.
“The Academy is committed to developing leaders for both the present and the future. We want to ensure that anyone in a leadership position within the university has gone through the Legon Leadership Academy and has access to its modules. Leadership should not happen by chance; we are being intentional about cultivating strong leaders.”

Prof. Amfo also underscored the University of Ghana’s status as the nation’s premier university, noting its legacy of producing graduates who have risen to leadership roles in various fields, including academia, politics, civil service, and even the presidency.
The initial rollout of the leadership modules includes key areas such as administrative leadership, academic leadership, higher education structure and management, and the legal framework governing the university.
These modules are designed to equip participants with essential leadership skills, knowledge of institutional governance, and an understanding of the university’s legal and administrative structures.
“We have about five core modules, including administrative leadership, academic leadership, higher education structure and management, and the legal framework of the University of Ghana.”
“These modules aim to familiarize leaders with the legal system, develop soft skills, and provide a comprehensive understanding of leadership in various contexts. Each module has specific objectives to be achieved by the end of the program.”

The Legon Leadership Academy was established by the university’s management to systematically train and equip leaders with the necessary skills and credentials to serve effectively now and in the future.
