Former University of Ghana Students Representative Council Presidential Candidate, Samuel Ackom and Majority Leader of the University of Ghana Parliament House, Justice Alor have called on management of the university to take urgent steps in improving the network services across all areas on campus.
The students in a letter to the Pro Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students Affairs (Pro VC ASA) , Prof. Gordon Awandare on Wednesday February, 8, 2023 indicated that among other things, the poor network services on campus hinders their ability to participate fully in virtual classes and negatively affects their mental well-being.
“We, the undersigned students are writing to express our deep concern and frustration over the poor network services that have been affecting our academic work. As we rely heavily on technology and online resources for our studies and work, it is imperative that we have a reliable and stable network connection.
Over the past few weeks, we have been experiencing frequent interruptions in our internet connectivity, poor call signals, making it difficult to access online resources, complete assignments, and participate in virtual classes. This has not only impacted our academic performance but also our mental well-being and motivation to continue our studies,” the letter said.
They therefore called on Prof. Awandare to liaise with network service providers to find solutions to the network challenges across campus while paying special attention to areas with weaker signals.
“We understand that providing network services is a complex task but network service is crucial to our academic and personal success. We believe that it is a basic necessity and should be given the priority it deserves. We request that you take immediate steps to improve the network service across campus. This can be achieved through a number of measures such as upgrading the current infrastructure, working with network service providers to extend and improve coverage and providing alternative solutions for areas with weak signals, especially at the Northern and Southern stretch of campus”.
