The University of Ghana marked the fifth day of its 2025 congregation on February 19, at the Great Hall, recognizing 1,976 graduates from the College of Humanities and Education programs in the afternoon session.
During the ceremony, graduates were celebrated for their academic achievements, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.
Guest speaker and legal practitioner, Dr. Albert Frimpong, urged the graduates to think beyond their present circumstances and embrace a vision for the future.
“Graduates, as we celebrate your achievements, remember: vision is more powerful than sight. As a blind person, I have overcome challenges through vision, not sight. To change the world, serve with courage, passion, and integrity. Most importantly, believe in the power of your vision.”
The valedictorian, Ms. Elizabeth Mensah, who earned a final GPA of 3.83 in Political Science and Information Studies, shared her inspiring journey. Despite facing setbacks that delayed her higher education for 11 years, her perseverance and determination led her to this remarkable achievement.
“I feel proud of myself, and I thank God for this title. The journey hasn’t been easy—balancing work, family, and academics, along with the stress of university life. Losing a parent along the way made it even more challenging.”
She encouraged continuing students to put God first and treat others with respect, as blessings can come from unexpected places.
Universe News also spoke with some graduates, who expressed a mix of emotions—pride, joy, and gratitude—for overcoming obstacles and staying committed to their goals.
“It’s been a tough but fulfilling journey. Balancing work, marriage, and parenting while pursuing a degree was challenging, but I made it.”
“Over the past four years, I’ve built friendships beyond academics. My advice? Take your studies seriously and never miss a class—I wouldn’t if I had the chance to go back.”
“I feel amazing! I didn’t expect this, but by God’s grace, I made it. The challenges were tough, but hard work pays off. To current students—stay focused and work hard; you can achieve this too.”
