The Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana has declared Gideon Ohene as the newly elected Treasurer of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
Ohene polled 11,703 votes, crossing the required 50% + 1 threshold to secure victory. He was declared the winner within 24 hours of the close of polls, in line with constitutional provisions requiring the EC to release certified results within 72 hours.
His closest competitors, Shadrack Acquah and Andoh Emmanuel Yooku, obtained 5,968 votes (25.5%) and 5,693 votes (24.4%), respectively.
The election was held on Monday, August 18, 2025. However, the General Secretary and Presidential races will head into a runoff on Thursday, August 21, after no candidate in those categories secured the required majority.
This year’s SRC elections also recorded a higher voter turnout compared to previous years.
