The University of Ghana’s Dean of Student Affairs has announced the cancellation the Elizabeth Sey Hall week event ‘SeyWrld’.

The statement dated 20th June, 2024, indicated that the event’s cancellation was caused by the organization of an unapproved program which was not listed in the outline given to the dean for approval.

The statement also remarked that the unapproved program was putting students’ safety at risk. Social media posts on the event were supposed indicators of the risk, as stated in the document.

“The letter dated 29th May, 2024 from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, granting you permission to organize your event ‘THE SEYWRLD’ clearly stated directives to be adhered to.”

“Videos circulating on social media show clearly that the executives of Hall have gone ahead to organize a program which was not part of the list of programs approved by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. This program also exposed residents of the Hall to danger. This is a clear violation of the directives that were to be adhered to.”

Similarly, barely two weeks ago, the James Topp Nelson Yankah’s (TF Hostel) Reunion Rave was also cancelled for the failure of the Junior Common Room (JCR) executives to include the event to the activities of the ‘Two Days Alumni Engagement’ that were approved.
